The Ledston and Otterden Estates are owned by The Wheler Foundation, a registered charity that was established in 1992 and is currently governed by the appointed Trustees.
The day to day management operations are dealt with by the managing agents, Carter Jonas LLP – Harrogate.
The Foundation is very keen and actively involved in education of all aspects of the countryside, making use of the rural estates that they own.
This is achieved through allowing access to the estates for schools and other groups of both adults and children via pre-organised visits in both Kent and Yorkshire.
The Charity’s Main Objectives:
- The maintenance and preservation of lands of historic, educational or landscape value of natural beauty, for the benefit of the public.
- The maintenance and preservation of historic buildings and works of art for the benefit of the public – whether or not educational.
- The encouragement of or assistance to agriculture, forestry and rural industry for the benefit of the public – whether or not educational.
- The making of gifts or donations to charitable bodies where in the option of the Board of Trustees, such gifts or donations shall be conducive to the promotion of all or any of the objectives of the Trust.
